A. Edison Taylor of Sydney River/Halifax passed peacefully in Halifax on December 30, 2020, at the age of 94.
He was born in Sydney to the late Arthur G. and Frances (Ferguson) Taylor.
Edison was predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Jean (Morrison); son, Kenneth; sisters, Margaret (Fred) Jordan, Muriel (Frank) MacLean, Edna (Stuart) MacLeod and Brenda Jefferson; and brothers, Everett (Theresa), Art, and Jim (Theresa).
He is survived by his daughter, Debby Noel; granddaughters, Tara and Tracey; son, Robert; grandson, Bryce; and Kenneth’s children, Lindsay and Derek, along with ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his wife, Adelaide, along with sister, Beryl (George) Samson.
Edison was a member of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River, the session since its inception and was the first president of the Brotherhood. He was a former member of the trustees, long range planning and also a former member of the Sydney Presbytery. Edison was a 32nd degree Mason and Past Master of St. Andrews Lodge, No. 7 AF&AM, Sydney. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 12, Sydney, former member of the Sydney and Riverview Y’s Mens Club, Sydney Curling Club and Nova Scotia Ski Association. Skiing and speedskating he did into his 80’s and loved it. He helped build the United Protestant Church of Sydney River. He was also one of the founding elders of 15 of the church, active for 51 years and an honorary member for approximately 20 years up until his death. He sat on the board at Bairncroft Orphanage in Sydney River for 30 years, along with being a board member of the Cove Guest Home. He was a gentle soul who loved his family and wouldn’t let anyone speak ill of Cape Bretoners. Although he spent the last few years in Halifax, Sydney was always home. A plumber by trade, Edison worked a number of years for his father, known as A. G. Taylor Plumbing and Heating and later, known as Taylor’s Plumbing and Heating. In 1965, he became the owner until retiring in 1986.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral to be held at the United Protestant Church of Sydney River on Friday, January 8 at 1 p.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Social distancing required, along with masks.
