Albert Lewis

May 12, 1934 - February 11, 2020

|

Sydney

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Albert Richard Lewis on February 11, 2020, at his home in Sydney, with Shirley by his side.

Born in Whitney Pier on May 12, 1934, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Launay) Lewis.

Albert and Shirley were married for 60 years and she was his devoted caregiver for the last two years providing the loving care that only she could.

Albert spent his working years as a mechanic for Rudderham's and B & M Burner Service, where he shared his expertise with many newcomers to the trade. Albert could fix anything and was a 'jack of all trades' and if he solicited your help with something, you were likely to be "just in time to be too late". He loved photography and taking family videos, even if his subjects did not. He enjoyed movies and had a display that rivaled the video shops of the day.  His passion was always listening to music and searching for vinyl records and had compiled an impressive collection. It was his music that provided him comfort in his final days. He will be deeply missed by his family, all of whom he adored and especially took great joy in recent visits with his great-grandchildren.

Albert is survived by his wife, Shirley (Stockley); son, Randy (Sherri), AB; daughter, Wendy Sue (Brian) Wagner, Sydney; grandchildren, Brandon (Mallory) Lewis, Brittni Lewis, Courtney (David) Campbell and Drew Wagner; great-grandchildren, Kinley and Kye Campbell; brothers, Jim, Nick and Steve, all in Ontario and several nieces and nephews.

Albert was predeceased by sisters, Thelma and Judy; brothers, Eddy, Robert “Jeddy”, Bill and Wally and several nephews.

The family would like to thank his homecare providers who took such great care of him, as well as becoming friends in the process. Thank you to the V.O.N. and all the other care providers involved in his care. You are all special people. Albert also looked forward to his Wednesday visitors, thank you for your friendship, Ron and Joe.

There will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. A family graveside service to take place at a later date.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.com or emailed to sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca .

When the shadows of this life have gone, I'll fly away.
