Angus “Gussie” MacLean

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Angus Allan MacLean, announce his passing on October 19, 2019, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Gussie was born in Sydney on January 8, 1945. He was the son of the late Charlotte and Jimmy MacLean of Orangedale/Malagawatch, Cape Breton.

Gus spent his early life in the Royal Canadian Navy until subsequently working at the Sydney Steel Plant until its closure. Gus was the go-to guy for a good car deal and enjoyed buying and selling used cars. Gus loved to play guitar and jam with his friends on a Saturday night. Gus and Lois enjoyed travelling to the various Country/Bluegrass Festivals throughout Nova Scotia, it was a hobby they shared with many friends.

Gus is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lois (Ley) MacLean; his son, Kevin MacLean; daughter, Shauna and son-in-law, David Hanson; his grandchildren whom he considered to be the "best", Samantha, Shawn, Corey and Brittany and lastly his great-granddaughter, Jailynn. He is also survived by sisters, Isabelle Cooper and Naomi (Lee) Walker, as well as his brothers and sisters-in-law whom he was close with and many nieces and nephews.

Aside from his parents, Gus was predeceased by his brothers, Father Langley MacLean and Charles MacLean.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2019, 1 p.m., at Bethel Presbyterian Church on George Street, with Rev. Ritchie Robinson officiating. Following the service, a lunch will be held at Bethel Church Hall on Brookland Street.

Gussie/Dad was a very proud man, so very proud of his family and their accomplishments, whether they be big or small. He'd always have a story to tell, whether you heard it before or not.

The family would like to thank Dr. Susan Ritcey and Dr. David Brake for their wonderful care. Also, sincere thanks to the nursing staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, as well as the volunteers who help the family through this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice Cape Breton or the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
