Ann Christina "Tena" MacPhee-Pottie

September 21, 1928-June 22, 2022

|

Sydney

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our beautiful and loving mother, Ann Christina MacPhee-Pottie, of East Bay on Tuesday, June 22, 2022, at her residence.

Born September 21, 1928, in East Bay, she was the last surviving child of the late John S. and Sarah (MacEachern) Campbell.

Tena, fondly known as ‘Ma’, was a member of St. Mary’s, East Bay, CWL and the Sydney Pensioner’s Club. In her early years, she worked as a baker and then established herself as an expert dry cleaner at Riverside Dry Cleaners, where she worked for 20 years.

She loved all types of music, especially Celtic, with fiddle tunes being a favourite and anything that got her up dancing. She loved going to church on Sundays, playing cards, travelling, hockey night, having a joke and a laugh and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.  She was always ready with a smile and a chat.

In recent years, she was fortunate enough to spend many a day just hanging out in her ‘happy place’ at the cabin in The Glen as ‘Queen of the Cabin.’

Ma had a caring and compassionate, yet feisty and fun nature that made others feel at ease and instantly fall in love with her. She was always ready to help others and would give, even when she had nothing. She had a real ‘can do’ attitude towards life and faced any challenge with great resilience and knowing that things would always work out.

Tena “Ma” is survived by her daughters, Florence Brown, Sarah MacPhee, Stephanie Peters (Glen), Augusta (Allan) McPhee, Rosaline MacPhee and Margaret (Philip) Davies; sons, Anthony (Stella), Leo (Dale) and John (Claire); 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and stepdaughters, Lillian, Raylene, Tracey and Dorothy.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Tony MacPhee (1988) and second husband, Raymond Pottie (2022); sisters, Peggy MacNeil and Mary Aprile; brothers, Angus and Mickey; son-in-law, Donnie MacPhee; and great-grandson, Brody MacPhee-Jessome.

The family would like to say a big thank you to the VON, Palliative Care, Nurse Practitioner, Aiben Paul and the staff at Primary Care, to the wonderful help from our care workers (Delia, Phyllis and Rose) and to family and friends for all the support, care and compassion they all showed that helped us through a very distressing and emotional time.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, June 29 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Mary’s Church, East Bay on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. with Rev. Anthony O’Connor officiating. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to charity of choice.

Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca
