It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Brenda Dalton on May 27, 2020 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a long and brave battle with Multiple Myeloma.  Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Olive Tetford, Cottage Road.  She was a dedicated employee of the former Sydney City Hospital and later Cape Breton Regional Hospital where she worked for more than 30 years as a Physiotherapy Assistant.  She loved her work and brought joy to both patients and staff alike with her fun outfits and costumes to mark every occasion.  During much of that time, she also taught sewing lessons and operated a fabric shop at the Cottage Road home with her mother, Olive.  She was also a dedicated volunteer and particularly enjoyed her years working the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign with her friend Mabel Jamieson.  She even volunteered as a server for many years while vacationing in Cuba so that she could relieve the burden of bar staff and welcome other guests.  Gentle natured and fun, she was a kind and generous soul and a champion of the underdog. The focus of her life was helping others and she was always eager to provide support to those who had come upon hardship or sadness.

Left to mourn her loss are husband Bill, Mira; daughters Kelly (Jerome MacIsaac), Bedford and Kim,Baddeck.  She will leave a large void in the lives of her grandchildren; Kaleigh, Kyle, Karah Marie, Lauren, Peter and Dan as well as great- grandson Wyatt.  They will miss her advice to "ABC"-always be careful and her requests fora "kissie-wissie".  She is also survived by brothers David (Judy) Tetford, Sydney;  Brian (Annette) Tetford, Mira and sister Nancy (Dan) MacKinnon, New Waterford. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Bishy; brothers, Wickie and Gerry and niece Cheryl.  Brenda had prearranged for her body to be donated to Dalhousie Medical School. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this was no longer possible and cremation has taken place.  Arrangements for a gathering in her memory will be made at a later time.  Brenda's life may be celebrated through a donation  to the Mira Boat Club Operations Fund, (Finance_MBC@bellaliant.com "In Memory of Brenda Dalton"),  where she also enjoyed volunteering and her parents were founding members, or through an act of kindness.

Brenda's family would like to thank Dr. Paul Murphy for his decades of medical care and compassion, especially from the time of her diagnosis to her final days. We also want to thank  Dr. Neil MacVicar  for his care and communication in the ER, the amazing staff  of 4C, the Palliative Care Unit, and the Cancer Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital  as well as the Hematology, Stem Cell Transplant and Medical Day Units at the QEll.  We would also like to recognize  neighbor and friend Dr. RJ MacKenzie for always being there in times of crisis.  A final thank you goes out to Brenda's bank, bakery, gas station and lotto ticket destination- Mullins Store.  She never had to leave Mira to find everything she needed. Words of comfort and Brenda stories (we will never watch the Trailer Park Boys or have a Coors Light without thinking of her)  may be shared at www.sydneymemorialchapel.com .
