Cpl. Jamie Gushard

January 10, 1994 - July 6, 2020

|

Pt. Edward/Gagetown, Oromocto, NB

Our world was forever changed with the unexpected passing of our son and brother, Jamie Ryan Gushard on Monday, July 6, 2020, in Gagetown,Oromocto, NB.

Born January 10, 1994, in Sydney, to proud parents, Ivan and Theresa (Gushard) Nickerson.

Jamie attended Balls Creek Consolidated School and Malcolm Munroe Jr. High, graduating from Riverview High School with a certificate in French Immersion.  In 2010, during high school, Jamie joined the Militia, completing  basic training with the Combat Engineers. Following high school, he attended Holland College to become a correctional officer. After working in New Glasgow, he followed in his father’s and brother’s footsteps joining the CAF regular force, where he was posted to Gagetown, Oromocto, NB.

Growing up, Jamie was labelled the mayor of Pt. Edward, as he was very sociable. He visited the neighbors and knew what they were all up to. Always trying to make a buck, Jamie would haul out his drums and hold outdoor solo concerts, as well as setting up the sawhorse to sell rocks, which the neighbors would buy. Jamie enjoyed the skate park and attending camp in Homeville. We never knew what to expect when he returned home. He once came home with his head and eyebrows shaved off, stating, “Oh well, they will grow back”. Another passion of his was fishing in Pictou and he especially enjoyed coming home to fish the Bras d’Or Lakes with his father.

Jamie was predeceased by his grandparents, Frank Nickerson(1984), Emma Nickerson (2015), Sam Clarke (2015) and Mary Gushard (2020).

He is survived by his parents, Ivan and Theresa (Gushard)Nickerson; brothers, Kyle, Trenton, ON and Stephen, Hamilton, ON; sister, Shauna,Burlington, ON; several aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as his faithful fur companion, QATO.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, July 31 from 4-7 p.m. A private family service will take place with Father Padre Patrick O’Neill officiating. Due to Covid restrictions, masks are mandatory.
