Doreen (LeBlanc) Mazalin

|

Whitney Pier

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Doreen at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

Doreen was born in the North End of Sydney where she attended school then she attended Constantine School when the family moved to Ashby.  At a young age, she moved to Ontario in search of employment, working at the North Ways Ladies Store in Toronto. Homesick for Cape Breton, she returned home and began working for D&T Cameron’s Dry Cleaning, Whitney Pier Branch. It was here she met her husband, Nandor and on November 9, 1963, they married. Doreen was known for her delicious meals and baking, which family and friends enjoyed.

Doreen is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Nandor; daughter, Michelle (Glen) Smith; sister, Greta MacNeil; special niece who was like a sister, Theresa McCarthy; many nieces and nephews; and in-laws, Victor (Jean) Mazalin and Julie (Ron) Doran.

She was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary (Robicheau) LeBlanc; brothers, John in infancy and Art; sisters, Alice (Tom) Penny and Georgina (Patty) Gardiner; brother-in-law, Henry MacNeil; father and mother-in-law, John and Rosa Mazalin; sister-in-law, Rose Mazalin; and brother-in-law, Joe Mazalin.

A sincere thank you to the staff of the Cove Guest Home for the wonderful care Doreen received over the past three years. Also to the staff of 4D and the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, thank you for your kindness and compassion.

A funeral service will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, June 24, 2022 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Interment will take place in Hardwood Hill Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
