Eileen Murchison

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful wife and mother, Eileen Murchison on Sunday, August 18, 2019.

Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Kathleen, "Kay" Gillis of 16 Kendall Street, Sydney.

Eileen is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Jamie; daughters, Allison (Kamran) and Amber; precious grandchildren, Tyler and Alyssa; five sisters, Warna Gillis-Gray (Bill) of Boston, MA, Patricia Addison (Len) of Toronto, ON, June O'Neil (Shane) of Lower Sackville, NS, Kathleen Line (Rick) of Markham, ON and Pauline Hood (Art) of Dartmouth, NS; brother, Douglas Gillis of Halifax, NS; sister-in-law, Heather Hopkins (Barry) of Sydney, NS; and brother-in-law, Laurie Murchison (Lee) of Coxheath, NS.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, Daniel Gillis (Jeannette) of Edson, AB and David Gillis (Christine) of Dartmouth, NS and her brother-in-law, Carl Murchison (Joan) of Fredericton, NB.

It was the sweet, simple things in life that brought Eileen the most joy and happiness like dancing in her kitchen to her favorite song or driving in the rain. She enjoyed watching sports of any kind, but especially loved watching her daughters and grandson play. Eileen loved her daily walks around the city, looking forward to friendly chats along the way. She had an amazing ability to make holidays magical for her family, especially Christmas and time spent with family and friends was precious to her and felt by all who shared her company. There was nothing she couldn't create with her loving hands, whether it was yummy cabbage rolls in her kitchen or Scottish kilts with her sewing machine! She enjoyed many years working in downtown Sydney, but will be most remembered for her sweet smile and kind words shared with her customers at the Bargain Shop. We will be forever grateful for the constant love and support from our family, friends and neighbours that gave us the strength to get through each day.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, August 22 from 4-7 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Friday, August 23 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating.  Interment will be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the loving care they provided.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton County.

Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca
