Eliza Jane "Jennie" MacPhail

|

Sydney

It is with deep sorrow that we, the family of Eliza Jane “Jennie” MacPhail, announce her passing on Sunday, February 2, 2020, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney on August 30, Eliza Jane was the daughter of the late Alice Rose Brown.

Eliza Jane will be greatly missed by her husband of 72 years, Stan; daughters, Deborah (Glen) Clark and Lynda (Robert) MacLellan, both of Calgary; brothers, Ron (Rita) Gates, Bathurst, NB and John (Sandee) Brown, Connecticut, USA; grandchildren, Jennifer (Brett), Sean, Natalya (Josh), Liam and Emma; and great-grandchildren, Liam, Paige and Quinn.

Besides her mother, Eliza Jane was predeceased by her beautiful granddaughter, Jesena.

Eliza Jane was a quiet, witty, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  In her early years of marriage, Eliza Jane applied her skills in math working as a bookkeeper, while later on in life, she was able to fulfil her passion for music managing the record department at the K-Mart, increasing sales by 300%. Eliza Jane and Stan lived life to the fullest. They enjoyed traveling together, playing golf with friends, engaging in card games, hosting parties, going to dances and visiting their family in Calgary.  Her commitment to staying fit was satisfied by her active participation in yoga and walking with friends.  Being a die hard fan of Elvis, one of her best memories was visiting Graceland.  Eliza Jane’s claim to fame was the ability to seek out any celebrity and get a picture with them to put in her “Brag Book”.  Eliza Jane’s dry sense of humour and keen insight into matters will be remembered by all who knew her.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the staff and caregivers at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.  The outstanding care and loving support from the staff of Unit 4B and the An Cala Palliative Care Unit allowed Eliza Jane a peaceful and comfortable transition.  Special mention to Dr. Greg Myatt for his continuous support and compassion toward the family.

The family would also like to thank their friends and family who provided tender support and comfort during this difficult time.

There will be no visitation.  A funeral service will be held at the United Heritage Church, Charlotte Street on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at 2 p.m., with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating.  Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Ladies Fellowship Circle of First United Heritage Church.
