James Alfred Nimchuk
October 5, 1946 - September 3, 2021
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, husband, brother, uncle, and grandfather, James Alfred Nimchuk, age 74, on Friday, September 3, 2021.
Born on October 5, 1946, in Sydney, NS, he was the son of the late Thomas and Louise Nimchuk.
James is survived by his son, Jamie (Suzanne); grandchildren, Morgan (Drew), Carson and Hailey; siblings, Tom (Betty), John (Joanne), Dorothy (Bob), Marion (Donnie), Walter (Suzanne), and Helen (Jim); brothers-in-law, Dan (Brenda) St. John and Pat (Margie) St. John. James will also be dearly missed by many nieces and nephews whom he cherished.
James will go on to reunite with his beloved wife of 43 years, Sharon (St. John) Nimchuk who he was predeceased by in 2012. He was also predeceased by his son, Mark Nimchuk in infancy; parents, Tom and Louise (Zillman) Nimchuk; sisters, Joyce and Sharon; brothers-in-law, Bob (Marion) Billiard, Joe St. John, Alex St. John, Gregory St. John and Dan (Mary) Halleran; sister-in-law, Mary (St. John) Halleran; and in-laws, Leo and Emmaline (Piercy) St. John.
James was employed with Sobeys for 30 years, and this is where he would meet his bride, Sharon. In his spare time, he was an avid fisherman, and devout member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. James also enjoyed bowling, attending the Cape Breton Eagles hockey games, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. As per James Request there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River on Wednesday, September 15 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
Donations in James’ honour may be made to the Canadian Transplant Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
