We, the family of Joan Beverley Jessome, very sadly announce her passing on February 7, 2021, at the home of her daughter, Darlene, in Courtice, Ontario.
Born August 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Evelyn (Duguid) MacGillivary.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Darlene Peters, ON; son, Louis (Yvette) Jessome, Sydney; and two grandchildren, who she absolutely adored, Nicholas and Katie Jessome, Sydney. She is also survived by her sister, Geraldine MacLeod; brother-in-law, Gordon Gillespie; brothers and sisters-in-law, Blair (Celia) Jessome, Stanley (Cora) Jessome, Theresa Serwatuk, Etta Jessome and Venita Power. Several nieces and nephews, as well as several grand-nieces and grand-nephews, who will certainly miss their Auntie Joan.
In addition to her parents and parents-in-law, Joan was predeceased by first husband, Pierce Peters, Sydney and second husband, Louis Jessome, Point Aconi (who died exactly thirty years ago to the day of Joan’s death). She was also predeceased by her sister, Iris Gillespie; brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Bernadette MacGillivary; brothers-in-law, Earl MacLeod, John Serwatuk and Francis Jessome; brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Bill and Alice Jessome and Delores and Hughie MacEachern.
Joan’s career was that of a nurse who enjoyed many years of employment, first at Sydney City Hospital, followed by many more years at St. Rita’s Hospital. Her specialty was that of a maternity nurse, a profession at which she excelled and took great pride and satisfaction in.
Before moving to Ontario approximately three years ago, Joan lived at Silver Birch Manor in Sydney and formed many life-long friendships in that building. She will be missed so very much by those friends, her many co-workers over the years, but most especially by her family, who loved her unconditionally over all these years, as she did them.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
If desired, memorial donations in Joan’s memory may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
