John Angus MacIvor MacDonald

December 3, 1922 - July 13, 2020

|

The family of John Angus MacIvor MacDonald are saddened to announce his passing on July 13, 2020, at the QEII, Halifax.

Born December 3, 1922, in Rear Little River, he was the son of Murdock J. and Mary Jane (MacDonald) MacDonald.

Dad was a very adventurous person.  He started those adventures at the early age of 17 when he made the move to Sydney. There, he met the love of his life, our beautiful mom, Anne Christine “Dolly”Beck. They were blessed with 71 years of marriage and lived in Mira for over 50 years where, he tended to his gardens with loving care. He started his working years at Sydney Marine Dry Docks, then signed up for the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.  He trained in Toronto then went on to work as a medic aboard the Crash Boats.  In later years, he worked in the carpentry field and eventually owned his own construction company.  During this time, he worked in the North with the Inuit teaching and helping build homes.  He loved to tell stories of his northern adventures and sleeping in an Igloo.

He is survived by his children, Carter Wayne (Elizabeth),Lloyd, Mary Jane (Dennis MacLeod, deceased), Susan (Lee Kelley), Anne (Marius Lengkeek) and Joan (Howard Hawkins); sister, Jean (Ray MacKay); many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by our Mom, Dolly MacDonald; great-granddaughter,Sara March; brother, DJ; and sister, Sadie MacInnis.

We would like to thank County & City Homecare workers,VON, Dr. Greg Myatt, Janice and Laurie, Dr. Paul MacDonald, medical staff of CBRH for all their wonderful care over the years, to Johnny’s Angels Margie and Charles and to his wonderful neighbours for their visits and treats.

There will be a Service of Remembrance at the Loch End Cemetery in Catalone on Thursday, July 16 at 10 a.m.
