|

Sydney

We, the family of John “Donnie” Ramsay, regret to announce his passing on Friday, August 28, 2020, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born November 28, 1938, in Sydney, he was the son of the late John “Jack” and Nellie (Coldwell) Ramsay.

John was a retired mechanic. For a number of years, he worked with his father and then went to Port Hastings to run an Esso service station.  In later years, John moved to Halifax before retiring to Sydney. He belonged to the Seniors Pensioners Club, where he loved to play shuffleboard.  John was a former curler and stock car driver. He also enjoyed playing crib, pool and dancing. John was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish and the prayer group at St. Theresa’s Parish.

He is survived by his son, Vincent (Jean) Ramsay; daughter, Cheryl (Pierre) Gaudet; grandson, Jodi (Dana) Musgrave; great-grandchildren, Marissa, Cassidy, Iceland and Ryker; sister, Shirley (the late James “Luke”) Hodgson; brother, Claude Ramsay (Shirley Taylor); and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his daughter, Linette Hudson; sisters, Phyllis (the late Frank) Keating and Catherine MacIntyre; and brothers, Woody (the late Monica) Ramsay and Kenneth (the late Joan) Ramsay.

A very special thank you to his many nieces who kept him well fed and maintained his apartment. We would also like to thank Dr. D. Miller, Dr. Paul MacDonald, Sandra Toner, Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Ernst, VON, Home Care, Cape Breton Cancer Centre, An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and anyone who helped him that we may have missed.

A private family service will be held. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Saturday, September 12, 2020 from 2-3 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, the An Cala Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital or the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County.
