Joseph Edward MacEachern

|

Sydney

It is with profound sadness that we, the family, regretfully announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, Joseph Edward MacEachern on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at the QEII in Halifax with his loving wife and best friend, Liz by his side.

Born in Sydney, Joseph was the eldest son of the late Joe and Gail (Spence) MacEachern. He was raised on Park Street in Sydney and spent his childhood summers on the family property in Grand Mira North skipping rocks and fishing in Jager’s cove.

He was a member of the Baha’i faith, spent many years as a bookkeeper and editor. He was also a talented computer technician.

Dad left an impression on all who knew him and he never hesitated to help or pass along knowledge to another.

He will always be remembered for his quick-witted sense of humor, his computer knowledge, delicious pancakes and, of course, his famous chili.

He appreciated the simple things in life such as a good cup of coffee with a friend and reading his books.  In their pastime, Joseph and Liz enjoyed playing scrabble and watching Oak Island together. He liked dancing at social events and took pride in coordinating the annual family games day in Grand Mira. Joseph was an avid puzzle solver. He had also took 3rd place in a Rubik’s cube speed contest in the 1980’s and was extremely happy that he was able to pass along that skill to the next two generations of his family. He had passion for learning and self-taught to play guitar.

Joseph said his greatest accomplishment in life was his beautiful wife and three beautiful children.

Besides his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his sister, Margaret; brothers, Alex and Robert; and in-laws, Angus and Annabell MacDonald.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Betty Ann ‘Liz”(MacDonald) MacEachern; three wonderful children, who he loved immensely, Latisha (Matt) Hubley, Anson MacEachern (Krista Scott) and Edward MacEachern (Amanda Bateman); five grandchildren, Jaedyn, Quinn, Brooke, Bryson and Jace, all of whom he was so very proud; sisters, Gail MacEachern-Jones (Andy) and Arlene (Bill) Ferguson; brothers, Arthur, Mark, John and Steven (Lisa); sisters-in-law, Marilyn MacEachern, Lorna Brown and Helen (Bert) Drover; brother-in-law, Bill (Alyson) MacDonald; and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca

O God, Guide me, protect me, illumine the lamp of my heart and make me a brilliant star. Thou art the mighty and the powerful. Abdu’l-Bahá
