Sydney

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Judy Carew, 74, on Friday, January 24, 2020.

Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred (MacLeod) Apblett.

Together with George, her husband of 55 years, they built a loving home in Mira Road, where they raised their family. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends at home or at the bungalow, where many nights were spent hosting gatherings with hours of music and dancing. There didn’t have to be a special occasion for Mom and Dad to sing or dance. Mom truly cherished her quiet times at home spent with Dad. Growing up, she loved sports, was an avid ice skater and played basketball for Holy Redeemer. She thoroughly enjoyed an active social life that included curling, darts, shuffleboard, and bowling. Mom always took the shortcut home. Her hearty laugh, warmth and kindness touched every person she met. Her baking was her goodwill trademark, welcomed by everyone in times of celebration or comfort. Mom’s greatest joy was found in her grandchildren, as she watched them grow and celebrated their every accomplishment with immense pride. Church and faith was an integral part of her life. As a member of the Anglican Church Community, she was an active ACW Guild Executive member. She proudly served St Alban’s church in numerous service ministries, as a reader and as a choir member.

Mom is survived by her loving husband, George; her three children, Ronnie (Keli), Howie Centre, Susan (Darren), Sydney, Jamie (Cheryl), Moncton; grandchildren, Abbey, Logan, Andrew (Caitlyn), Sam, Simon, Georgia, Julia and Isabella; sister, Suzanne Hussey, Sydney; brother, Johnny Apblett, Sydney; sisters-in-law, Joan MacKenzie (Steve), Fredericton, Elaine Matheson (Martin), Sydney; brothers-in-law, Leo Mombourquette, Sydney and Kevin Carew, Sydney.

She was predeceased by her sister, Dale Mombourquette; brother, Ronnie Apblett; nephew, Kirt Mombourquette; brothers-in-law, Louie, Emmett, Bernie; and sister-in-law, Shirley.

Funeral service will take place Wednesday, January 29, 2020, at 11 a.m. in St. Alban’s Church, with Rev. Canon Brenda Drake, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice or to St. Alban’s Church, Whitney Pier.

Words of comfort may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.com or emailed to sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca
