We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of our mother,Mabel “Belle” (Lundrigan) Duffney, age 91, on Tuesday August 4, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, An Cala Unit.

 

Belle was born in Sydney on April 16, 1929 to the late George and Alfreda (Gosse) Lundrigan.

 

Before her marriage to Reg, January 18, 1952, mom worked at National Drug in Sydney.

 

She is survived by her daughters Valerie McMaster, Truro, NS,Sandra (Brent) Smith, Vancouver BC and adored granddaughter Katherine Louise(Adam) Colpitts, Pemberton, BC. She was predeceased by her husband George“Reginald” Duffney (1997), and son-in-law Doug McMaster (2019). Also survived by brothers Allister (Helen), Sydney, Fred (Late Linda), Wilmot, NS.Predeceased by sisters Dorothy, Louise, Marg (late Aubrey), brothers and sisters-in-law Ed(Chris), John (Tina), Bill (Jeanette) and Gordon. Also survived by sisters-in-law Bev (late Fraser) MacLeod, Toronto and Diane (Late Jim) Duffney, Etobicoke, Ont, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Belle had attended St. Albany’s Anglican Church, a former member of the choir and taught JA and Sunday School. She also worked many summers as an assistant cook at the church camp, Camp Bretondean. For over thirty years she worked as a kitchen volunteer at the local Red Cross Blood Donor Clinics.

 

The family are forever grateful to First Responders (police officer Melnick, two wonderful paramedics) and the amazing doctors, nurses and support staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their kindness and compassion to mom and us.

 

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel where the visitation will be held Monday, August 17, from 2 - 4 pm in the Chapel, Internment will be held Tuesday August 18 at 11 am at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Jackie Warren officiating.

 

Memorials, if desired, may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, or charity of choice.

 

We love you Mom, Nana!
