Marcella Elizabeth (MacIsaac) MacDonald

March 29, 1930 - June 5, 2021

|

Sydney

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marcella Elizabeth (MacIsaac) MacDonald announces her passing at age 91.  She passed away peacefully at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay on June 5, 2021, where she resided for the past year.
Born March 29, 1930, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Ella Mae ‘Stella’ MacIsaac.
Marcella grew up loving the outdoors and skating at the old Sydney Forum back when wearing long pleated skirts was fashionable. She also enjoyed working as a Private Nursing Assistant.
Fashion, music, reading, watching movies, especially, Meet Joe Black, and making her famous spaghetti and meatballs dinners for her family were some of her favourites. And yes, there was always room for one more at her ‘ever-growing-dinner-table’. Known for her outgoing personality, she will live on through her many children and their children for generations to come.  As she always liked to say, “What’s in the cat is in the kittens.”
Marcella is survived by her children, Ann MacDonald (Manning), Eddie (Heather), Hilda (Jonathan Verbuyst), Shaun (Helen), Donald, Almon (Deborah), Marcella Ferro (John) and Robert (Cynthia Keeler); 10 grandchildren, Robbie (Krystal), Jeff (Christine), Charlie (Ayum), Jaclyn, Leah (Andrew), Sean (Shannon), Matthew, Aaron (Gaby), Joshua and Nina; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jade, Wyatt, Everett, Stella, Noa, Hiro, Ada, Isla Marcella, Lennon and Malcolm. Marcella is also survived by her sister-in-law and dear friend, Kay Hunter; Frankie Walker, who was like a son to her, his wife, Sherry, their daughter, Chloe and all the Walker family; and her many loved nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by her husband, Alvin ‘Eddie’ MacDonald; daughter, Stella; and her life partner, Donald “Goose” Walker. Marcella is the last of her generation being predeceased by all of her brothers and sisters.
Marcella’s family would like to thank the staff at Victoria Haven Nursing Home for embracing her gregarious personality and for treating her like family. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit, as well as Kollin Weatherbee and staff at Sydney Memorial Chapel. Her children would like to express their love and gratitude to their sister, Ann and her unwavering support as mom’s ‘special caregiver and sidekick’.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date for family members.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or the Canadian Cancer Society.
“To my Family”
I am at peace,
my soul’s at rest.
There is no need for tears
For with your love,
I was so blessed
For all those many years.
