Margaret Dolena Fraser

April 28, 1926 - January 18, 2021

Whitney Pier

With broken hearts, we regret to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Margaret Dolena Fraser on Monday, January 18, 2021.

Born April 28, 1926, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Margaret (MacPhail) Rodgers.

Mom was the glue that held the family together with the favourite meeting place being her kitchen. She was a fantastic baker, her pies and cinnamon rolls went well with a hot cup of tea. Mom felt very fortunate to have the love and support from her very large family, spanning coast to coast and as far away as Hawaii. She was an avid sports fan with the Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs being her favourite teams. One of her favourite days was her weekly Saturday outing to Sobeys and the Bonnie.

Margaret is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Murray) MacCuish, Laurie Lloyd, Ottawa, Judy (Butch) MacLean, Francie Bourgeois, Cathy Lynch, Gina Fraser, BC and Patricia (Darren) Thompson, Ottawa; sons, Kenny (Janet), Brian (Lydia), Rod (Donna), BC, Donnie (Shauna) and Stephen (Karen); 37 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, James “Buddy” (Marjorie); and several nieces and nephews

Besides her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Donald; daughters, Donna Viereck and Francine (four months of age); and siblings, Murdock, John, Minnie Wolodka and Rita Burt.

A private family funeral will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 22, with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date. The service can be viewed on Facebook Live by visiting the Sydney Memorial Chapel Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VON, Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or a charity of your choice.

A special thank you to Helen, VON and Sharon, Palliative Care for their love, compassion and excellent care. The family would also like to thank Kollin Weatherbee and staff for their professionalism and guidance during this difficult time.

Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca
