Marion "Mar" MacDonald

November 30, 1935 - September 29, 2021

Sydney

We, the family, regret to announce the peaceful passing of Marion “Mar” MacDonald at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on September 29, 2021.

Born November 30, 1935, in Grand Mira, she was the daughter of the late John Alexander and Mary (MacKinnon) MacDonald.

Marion is survived by her brother, James (Germaine) MacDonald; nieces, Margaret (Leo) MacDonald, Shannon (Jeffrey) Hyland and Jennifer MacDonald; nephew, Wayne MacDonald; grandnieces, Laura and Katherine Hyland, as well as grandnephews, Alexander MacDonald and Stephen Hyland.  Marion is also survived by many cousins in the MacKinnon and MacDonald families.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Murphy-Kulyk.

Mar attended Holy Angels High School, and later worked at Breton Bay Seniors Home and Nazareth House.

She provided care to her mother for many years.  Marion was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many. She had a great sense of humour and always had a joke for all to hear.  Those who knew Marion could always count on her for a helping hand. Mar was generous, caring and loved to play bingo.  She enjoyed spending time with her close friends, especially, Joan Mouland, Rose MacLean, and Louise Fogarty, until Louise’s passing earlier this year. Marion had a positive effect on those who knew her and was a very determined individual.  She loved the outdoors, and was very fond of animals, including many beloved pets.

Cremation has taken place.  In accordance with Marion’s wishes, no visitation will occur and a small family ceremony and burial will take place at St. Margaret’s Cemetery, Grand Mira, in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the SPCA.

A special thanks to Cape Breton Regional Hospital Staff of the Emergency Room and 4D.
