|

North Sydney

It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Mary Eileen Lyle at Hospice Cape Breton on Wednesday, June 8, 2022.

Born in Bras d’Or on August 23, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Phalen) Long.

Eileen was employed as a cleaner with the Cape Breton Regional School Board before her retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’ Or and the North Sydney Pensioners Club, where she met so many wonderful friends. She also gained new friendships at Central Court in North Sydney where she resided for the past three years. Eileen was also an avid camper at Joyful Journeys Campground in Englishtown for 30 plus years.

Eileen is survived by her daughter, Brenda (Wayne) Quinn, Alder Point; son, David (Lynn), Florence; grandchildren, Lyle (Nylan), Jenna (Jordan), Matthew (Kim) and Michael (Hannah); great-granddaughter, Rosalie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The last surviving member of her immediate family, Eileen was predeceased by her husband, David; sister, Leona (Lloyd) MacLeod; brothers, Tom, Russell (Catherine), Frank (Rose) and two brothers in infancy.

Special thanks to Dr. Bill MacDonald for his care of Eileen over the years. Thanks to the Home Care Society and to the Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton. Special thanks to Julia Penney, Dr. D’Intino, and staff for the wonderful care given to Eileen at the end of her life, at the new state-of-the-art Hospice Palliative Care building in Sydney.

There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bras d’Or with Rev. Chinonso Alaribe officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Northside Food Bank or Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton.
