It is with profound sadness and broken hearts we announce the passing of Michael Hubert Pouchelu, 89, cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born on April 7, 1930 in Sydney and a life long resident of Mira Road he was the son of the late Michael and Lena(Bona) Pouchelu.

In Mike’s early years he was employed with Cape Breton Wholesale, Blue Flame Gas and drove truck hauling gravel to build the Canso Causeway.  Mike left his beloved Island for  eleven years and moved to Kitchener, Ontario where he was employed at Van Dresser factory.  Upon his return to Cape Breton he worked as a carpenter for Muller’s Construction until his retirement. Throughout his life time Mike was avid fisherman, hunter and member of the Airway Beagle Club.  He enjoyed long drives in the country and woodworking in his workshop. Prior to some more serious health issues the last few years Mike traveled to Newfoundland every summer to visit his daughter, family and treasured friends.

Mike leaves behind his devoted wife of 63 years, Anna (Peters); daughters, Cathy Hiscock, Newfoundland; Sheri(Donnie) Doucette, Sydney; Michaela (Bruce) Pringle, Coxheath; by his grand children, Amanda (Michael) Snow, Newfoundland; Michael Hiscock,Newfoundland; DJ (Wendy) Pouchelu, Coxheath; Matthew (Ashley) Hiscock, Newfoundland; Kathleen Pringle; Ryan Pringle; Coxheath; and by great granddaughter Ellie Hiscock, Newfoundland; brother, Peter(Theresa) Pouchelu, Sydney; special nephews, Michael (Gwen) Pouchelu, David Pouchelu and Blair Pouchelu and Doug (Karma) Coombs; sisters-in-law, Shirley Coombs and Joan Petrie, Kitchener, Ontario.

He was predeceased by his mother-and father-in-law, Clara and Albert Peters; sister-in-law, Patsy Brown;brother-in-law, John Coombs and son-in-law, Fred Hiscock.

Cremation has taken place as requested under the care of Sydney Memorial Chapel.  A family service will be held at a later date.
