June 30, 1931 - January 22, 2020

|

Sydney/Halifax

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Myrna Sanderson on January 22, 2020, at Parkstone Enhanced Care in Halifax.

Born in 1931 to Frank and Jean Robar, Myrna grew up in Little Liscombe, Guysborough County.

Determined to go to university, she worked in Montreal and studied nights at Sir George Williams University. She earned her BA in Psychology, graduating with the medal for English, and began a MA degree. She met her beloved husband, Keith, in Montreal, and they moved to Coxheath, Sydney in 1969.

She and Keith lived in Cape Breton for almost 50 years. Myrna will be remembered as an accomplished Bridge player and a long-time, active member of the United Protestant Church of Sydney River. She had many friends and enjoyed curling, her garden, her crafts, and completing the New York Times Crosswords. Myrna adored her children and grandchildren. She especially encouraged all their educational pursuits and proudly celebrated all of their accomplishments.

Myrna is survived by her husband, H. Keith Sanderson; her children, Laura (Greg), Heather (Craig) and Brian (Kelly); her five grandchildren, Andrew Johnston (Emily), Alec Sanderson, Christine Johnston, Julia Sanderson, Claire Sanderson, and step-grandson, Owen Benjamin. Also surviving are her siblings, Blanche Edmonds, Eric Robar (Gwen) and Judy Hartling (Alec) and sister-in-law, Sandra Robar.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Graham, John “Jack” and Keith.

The family would like to thank Parkstone for the care and compassion shown to Myrna.

A funeral service will be held at the United Protestant Church of Sydney River on Wednesday, January 29 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Following the service, a reception will take place in the church hall. Interment in Alfred Smith Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Protestant Church of Sydney River or a charity of your choice.

Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca
