September 15, 1933 - April 30, 2021

Sydney

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Phyllis Brookman, announce her peaceful passing on Friday, April 30, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with family by her side.

Born September 15, 1933, in Georges River, Phyllis was the daughter of the late John Peter and Ida Mae (Allen) Young.

Besides her husband, Edward Brookman, she was predeceased by her sisters, Grace, Margaret “Sis”, Bernice, Ann, Jean, Kay and Mildred and brothers, Francis, Steve, Roy and Fred.

Mom will be sadly missed by her bingo buddies and all the people she invited into her home with open arms for family gatherings. If you needed anything, she would never say, no.

Phyllis is survived by her six children, Beatrice (Roland), Eddie, Paul (Sharon), Loretta (the late Barry Maclean), Susan (Fred) and Mark and by her only surviving sister, Maude (Bill Broussard).  She is also survived by the loves of her life, her  eight grandchildren, Michael (Julie) Spurvey, Bruce (Jamie) Barrett, Karl (Jessica) Barrett, Scott Brookman (Leah), Nicole Brookman (Jordan), Cory Brookman (Abby), Ashley Brookman and Karen Brookman and her eight great-grandchildren, Jayden, Isla, Wyatt, Hunter, Mason, Karlie, Finnley and Parker, as well as her special family members, Gordy, Jackie and Alberta Young; special niece, Darlene Broussard and many nieces and nephews.

Mom always made sure everyone was well fed, including the family dog, Jake, who she adored. She loved listening to George Jones and Johnny Reid.

As per Phyllis’ wishes, cremation has taken place. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private service will be held at a later date.

A special thank you to all the staff of 4C, 3B and Palliative Care.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Words of comfort can be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca or e-mail sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca
