Shirley Donalda MacLeod, RN

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the death of Shirley Donalda MacLeod, CD, RN on Friday, June 17, 2022, at home.
Born in North Sydney on March 2, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Edna (Musgrave) Jackson.
Shirley is survived by her loving son, Stephen (Paula MacRury); her sisters, Theresa (Walter) Pelley, Rhonda Black and Kathy MacIntosh and brother, Sandy (Anne) Jackson. She is also survived by her granddaughter, Blayre Ivey and her great-grandsons, Sawyer, William and Christian Young, Sydney Mines and Nicholas MacLeod, Halifax.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Hughie; her son, Paul; granddaughter, Cynthia Marie at birth; brothers-in-law, Bill Black and Ian MacIntosh. Shirley was also predeceased by her close friend, Graham Bagnell.
Shirley lived in North Sydney for 60 years before moving to Sydney. She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth Hospital, North Sydney in 1964. Shirley worked with the Unemployment Insurance Office and Statistics Canada. Shirley was a member of numerous Boards and was very proud to be a founding member of the Northside Women’s Center Society, now known as Every Women’s Center in Sydney.
Shirley was active in volunteering in her community and was very honored to be awarded the Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal in 2002, in recognition for her community service work. Shirley always took pride in her appearance, a trait inherited from her mother. Shirley was a very proud Tory supporter.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. in Sydney Memorial Chapel in Sydney, NS. Interment will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens following the funeral.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County or a charity of choice.
