Sydney

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Theresa Constance (Bearnes) Arsenault or “Bear” as she was lovingly referred to by her family. Mom passed away at her home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, September 1, 2021.

Mom was a member of the St. Theresa’s Parish Church as well as an active member of the CWL for 23 years. She was a member of the Senior Choir, assisted with the Children’s Choir and taught religion. Mom was a devoted servant to God, and a faithful member of her prayer groups. She was fortunate to be able to attend a Cursillo in 2002. Mom was often asked to pray for people’s loved ones and felt honored to do so. She believed it was her duty to pray for those who were sick or troubled. This was a reflection of mom’s compassion.

Mom loved her life and always supported her grandchildren by attending baptisms, competitions, recitals, Christmas concerts, hockey games, graduations, weddings and many other events. She loved Rita MacNeil, The Men of the Deeps, Donnie Campbell and live entertainment.

Mom loved spending time with her family, she enjoyed family BBQ’s and her many drives around Cape Breton Island to see the ocean, her favourite place being Black Brook, where she would sit and enjoy the waves and ocean breeze with her family. Mom, you have one more drive to take to the most beautiful resting place where you will be greeted by your mom, husband and son, Michael. Safe travels mom, we will miss you dearly.  Take her home Dad.

Theresa is survived by her six daughters and one son, Susan LeBlanc (Donnie), Nancy Arsenault (Tom Farrell), Karen Facchin (Angelo), Denise Arsenault, David Arsenault, Glenda Fox and Laurel Lee Arsenault (Robert Leyte).  She is a much-loved Grammie to her fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Jordan Leblanc (Christina (Julianna and Sammy)), Renee LeBlanc (Sean Parsons (Nathan)), Mitchelle Leblanc (Emily Campbell), Denisha Farrell, Thomas Farrell (Judy (Logan and Jacob)), Shantelle Farrell (Adam Dearn), Jonathon Facchin, Lauren Thompson (Graeme (Avery)), Matthew Duffy, Victoria Fox (Devon Prosser), Olivia Fox, Robert Leyte (Tiffany Steel), Greg and Ashley Leyte. Mom is also survived by her sister, Bessie (Bearnes) Oakley; sister-in-law, Isabel (Arsenault) Tell; brother-in-law, Raymond Arsenault; nephew, Tony MacPhee; cousin, Richard Fogarty; and many nieces and nephews.

Theresa was predeceased by her loving husband, Emile; her parents, Mimmie (Mary MacNeil) Bearnes and Thomas Bearnes; brother, Sonny Bearnes; step-brother, Harold; step-sisters, Eva, Viola, Beatrice and Mabel. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald Oakley, Bobby Arsenault, Fred Tell, Pat Arsenault, Clifford and June Arsenault, Linus and Mary Ellen Arsenault, Mary Jane and Philip Delaney and Marilyn and Joe Arsenault; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Monday, September 6, 2021 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church, 381 Whitney Ave, Sydney,  on Tuesday, September 7 at 11 a.m., officiated by Fr.
