Yvonne LeVert

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Yvonne Cecilia LeVert, on Sunday, August 18, 2019, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born July 10, 1937, in Margaree Forks, NS, she was the daughter of the late Moses and Marie (Doucet) Chiasson.

Yvonne had a long and vibrant life, much of which was spent sharing her love of food and cuisine with family and friends. She is remembered as a teacher, mentor and chef to the many students she taught at Memorial High School and Cape Breton University. A graduate of Le Cordon Bleu, Académie de Cuisine de Paris, she shared her knowledge through teaching, cookbooks, catering, and private cooking classes for many years. She is remembered as a story teller, friend, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and especially as a loving wife to her husband of 53 years, Bernard. She loved deeply and was deeply loved. She will be sorely missed.

Yvonne is survived by her husband, Bernard; daughter, Laurelle (Brad Crossman), Saint John, NB; son, Laurier (Kate Arnold), Sydney; granddaughters, Madeleine and Sophie; sister, Pauline (Joe) MacKinnon, Lower South River; and brother, Lawrence (Marcelle) Chiasson, Dartmouth.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Rita, Regina, Sr. Antoinette, Bertha, Margaret and Elizabeth; brothers, Isidore, Alcide, Gabriel, Leo, Gerard, Ephrem and Emile.

There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys (Cabot Street, Sydney) on Friday, August 23, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Doug Murphy officiating. Reception to follow. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CNIB Nova Scotia, Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton, or the Sister Rita Clare Scholarship Fund.

Our thanks and gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
